ULTEM 9085 – a bit of an all-round show off

Traditionally, there has always been a challenge for 3D printing to be able to develop plastic pieces that can withstand prolonged heat exposure. This meant that Ultem 9085 for FDM was a huge leap in material engineering.

We’ve been advising our clients within the commercial transport industry, especially aerospace, about the super powers of Ultem 9085 for years. Here’s why:

  1. Superior tensile strength
  2. Lightweight
  3. FST (flame, smoke, toxicity) certified thermoplastic
  4. Excellent rigidity
  5. High strength to weight ratio

What does this mean for your next project?

The FST rating is a safety standard that ensures a material won’t promote a fire, release harmful smoke, or emit toxic fumes; an extremely valuable characteristic for the automotive industry.

Even if your specific application doesn’t demand the stringent FST rating, don’t overlook this material just yet. The durability, strength and resistance to chemicals and heat mean if you need a material that can take a beating, Ultem easily rises to the challenge.

Material properties

Colours: Tan or Black
Tensile strength: 9950 psi
Flexural strength: 16200 psi
Heat deflection at: 66psi: 153 °C
