OUR PEOPLE: Meet Sophie Trussell

Attention to detail is what we do at Ogle so it made sense to give each member of staff a bit of attention too. The ‘Our People’ series at Ogle, highlights the people behind the work and what they like to do in their spare time.

Not everyone at Ogle is hands-on with building models and prototypes. We also have a very efficient and talented backroom team who keep everything moving smoothly. Sophie, who has just celebrated five years working here, works in our finance department, but she can turn her hand to other roles as needed.

What did you do before working at Ogle?

I had recently left school and was completing my first year of an apprenticeship at a solicitors’ until it unfortunately closed. With one year left to complete my apprenticeship, I was fortunate enough to be taken on by Ogle.

What skills were you able to bring to your current role?

I always had an interest in maths throughout school which definitely helps in the finance world. Although I was very young with very little experience, I believe having a fresh mindset with new ways of thinking really has been an asset. I have taught many employees more efficient ways of doing the same jobs that they have been doing for years, for example, with Excel.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

As much as I love my sleep, I am still excited to come to work for the people. It’s like having a family that you can’t wait to spend the rest of your day with.

Describe the most enjoyable part of your role and proudest moment to date…

One of the favourite parts of my job is event planning. I have planned many Christmas parties, Dave Orman’s retirement party, summer BBQs and so on. It’s lovely to see my ideas come to life and eventually see everyone together having a great time.

It would be very hard to pick my one proudest moment as we create so many amazing projects at Ogle. Once we receive a new job, I will be involved from the start to the very end from uploading a new job into our system right up to packing it to go out the door. From my desk I can see the workshop always hard at work putting their full concentration into the tiniest of jobs, so I guess it’s the people that make me proud.

How does your role integrate with others at Ogle?

Although my role has a lot of independent work where I’m typing away quietly at my computer, I always have contact with the entire team. I’m consistently having an input into different conversations to help where I can. I have also been told multiple times how I am always the smiliest person in a room!

Why do you believe Ogle is a leading model making and prototyping company?

What I believe separates us from others in the industry is our many years of experience combined to always finding the most efficient solution. We invest a lot into what is important, whether that be our people or machines. The quality of our models speaks for itself.

How do you think more young people could be brought into the industry?

I think it needs to be shown from a younger age that this is a possible career and to be taught how to reach that goal. When I was at school, which was only six years ago, I do not remember seeing much about this industry at any career events or work experience opportunities.

Tell us something we don’t know about you…

A fun fact about me is that I love teaching myself new things that others do not know. For example, I can type from memory every country in Europe in under two minutes and I am currently learning to name all 50 states of America.
